Real-Time Rate Card

About 2 years ago I thought it would be a good idea to ask my fellow Video & DIT assistants what their daily rates are. We coalesced all the data in a spread sheet. We wanted to see how our wages are changing over time.

The data ranges back from 2015 all the way to 2022. It uses simple average formulas to determine the average rates achieved per year.

The Y.o.Y. tells us how much the average rate has increased or decreased when compared to previous years. One can note that in 2020 our rates took a hit because of the COVID-19 Pandemic but recovered strongly the year after.

The data is pretty solid as all participants are seasoned UK professionals who have done the majority of the Video/DIT assistant work over the last 5 years.

The spreadsheet above constantly changes as it acquires new data giving us new average figures year by year. It is completely self sufficient and barely requires any external management.

If you are interested in working as a Video or DIT assistant then these are the figures to follow.

Our definition of Video / DIT Assistants: "A technician who works within a team of two or more individuals. Video assistants are not typically required to be proficient with Qtake. They maintain the video infrastructure on-set and assist the Video Operator.

A DIT Assistant is usually required to get picture from cameras. Either via hard wire or wireless. They are not typically required to know data management software neither are they expected to live grade, transcode or be a dailies colourist. They often help the on-set DIT with their work."
